Specimen Type: Blood
Container/Tube: Lavender top, EDTA whole blood

Specimen Volume: Full tube, submit 2.5 mL serum
Specimen Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Send specimen in original tube.
2. Samples are stable for:
• 3 days at room temperature
• 7 days at 2-8 °C

The A1c goal for nonpregnant adults in general is <7%.
The A1c goal for selected patients may be significantly lower than 7% if this can be achieved without significant
hypoglycemia or other adverse effects of treatment.
