Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Blood
Container/Tube: Lavender top, EDTA whole blood

Specimen Volume: Full tube, submit 2.5 mL whole blood
Specimen Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL whole blood
Collection Instructions:
1. Invert several times to mix blood.
2. Send specimen in original tube if sample will reach lab within 7 hours.
3. If >7 hours, spin tube and remove plasma.
4. Store at refrigerated or room temperature for up to 24 hours.
5. If plasma is not tested within 24 hours, freeze plasma.
6. Frozen plasma is stable for at least 1 week.
