Specimen Requirements

Review Collecting a Coagulation Test for complete instructions before drawing specimen.

 

Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Light-blue top (citrate)

Specimen Volume: 1 full tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2.7 mL

Collection Instructions: 

   1. Collect blood in a blue top tube (coag tube) adequately filling tube to fill line.

   2. Sample must be spun and separated within 4 hours of collection.

   3. Centrifuge for 10 minutes at 6000 RPM or 10 minutes at 1500-2000 g.

   4. Separate plasma into a plastic tube. Separated plasma can be stored at 2-8°C for 3 days. 

   5. Whole blood samples must be tested within 4 hours of collection.​​​​​​​
