Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type:  Blood

Container/Tube:  Grey

Also Acceptable:  tiger top; lithium heparin (green)

Specimen Volume:  Full tube, submit 0.4 mL plasma/serum
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.35 mL
Collection Instructions:
    1. Send specimen in original tube.
    2. If there is a delay in transport of >1 hour, centrifuge tube.
    3. Centrifuged SERUM samples are stable for:
        • 8 hours at room temperature
        • 7 days at 2-8 °C

Centrifuged PLASMA samples are stable for:
     • 8 hours at room temperature
     • 72 hours at 2-8°C
