Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Blood
Container/Tube: Tiger top, serum gel
Also Acceptable: Red top

Specimen Volume: Full tube, submit 0.4 mL serum
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.35 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Send specimen in original tube.
2. If there is a delay in transport of >1 hour, centrifuge tube.
3. Sample must be spun within 2 hours of collection.
4. Centrifuged samples are stable for:
    • 24 hours at room temperature
    • 7 days at 2 – 8ºC

5.  If sample collected in a red top tube, sample must be spun within 2 hours of collection and serum poured off into a plastice transport tube.
