Important Note

The patient should be fasting, as reference ranges are based on fasting individuals.

Tests included are: Cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL, LDL (calculated), Cholesterol/HDL ratio and non-HDL Cholesterol Calculated.

Test subject to Medicare National Coverage Determination (NCD) Cardiovascular Screening Blood Tests and 190.23 Lipid Testing.

This test is subject to reflex testing, you have the option to decline reflex testing if you believe it is not medically necessary. If the triglyceride is greater than 400 mg/dL or the calculated LDL is deemed invalid a Direct or Measured LDL Cholesterol will be performed.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Blood
Container/Tube: Tiger top, serum gel
Also Acceptable: Green top (Lithium Heparin)
Specimen Volume: Full tube, submit 0.6 mL 
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.3 mL
Collection Instructions:
   1. Send specimen in original tube.
   2. If there is a delay in transport of >1 hour, centrifuge tube.
   3. Centrifuged samples are stable for:
       • 5 days at 2 – 8ºC
